Program: Design two interlocking spaces for a writer. One space is for the act of writing, and the other for thinking and contemplation. The project is located in an open field, and climate is not an issue. Begin with two horizontal planes 20'x 30' x 8' @ 1/4" = 1'-0". Proceed with the following steps: 1) Place them on top of each other 2) Rotate the top plane until the two planes are discordant 3) Vertically separate the two planes, and create a stable space which a person can stand up in, but you must also minimize the amount of space leaking beyond its boundaries. Note that this dimension will need to be adjusted as the project moves forward
Program: A collector wants to display a 2"x4"x22' long board. The collector desires to provide an experience of the object that increased its distinctivness, and intensifies our desire for an understanding of this common object. To achieve this end the collector has decided that obscuration and delay are two strategies that will help accomlipsh this goal. The two strategies can be stated in the following manner: 1) The entire facility should express "continual delay" 2) The board is to be placed in its own space, but should not ever be viewed in its entirety. The crematorium is the locus of one ritual of death; one which precedes entombment or distribution. It is a place of immolation, the reprieve of the body into ashes and spirit. It is a place not only for the dead, but also for the living - a place for waiting, meditating, and renewal. The cremation process takes two to three hours, and accomplishes what it takes nature several decades to do: return a body to its elements. A flame reaching 1400 to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit reduces the body to bone particles and fragments. The fragments then are processed further to reduce them to uniform particles, with a total weight up to four pounds
